"The wealthy man is the man who is much, not the one who has much."

Test
The test may include one or more of these essay questions. I strongly suggest preparing for each of them throughly, complete with a bulleted set of notes on an index card. You may only have one side of one index card per essay and all items must be short form (bullets, phrases, etc.) without already written sentences and/or paragraphs. Please come up to the teachers desk to show the cards prior to starting the test. During the course of writing the essay, be especially mindful that fully developed sentences, paragraphs, and organization of ideas is the expectation, and a multitude of quotes, references and commentary on the use of literary devices on Dickens part will earn higher points.
At the completion of the test, staple the card(s) to the essays
1 What does Dickens have to say about the nature of friendship in Great Expectations?
2 How does the convict present conflict and irony for Pip?
3 What does the Haversham mansion represent? How does Dickens heighten our understanding of the message of the story through this symbol?
4 Discuss Dickens use of light and dark in the imagery of Great Expectations.
5 Why should this book be read by today's generation?
